MORE ABOUT GOTHAM:
Building the city:
The world for 'Gotham' started with a Super-flat water template. From there the components of 'Gotham' were built separately in other Super-flat worlds and imported using WorldEdit. All buildings and systems were imported. Streets, sewers, walls, etc. were all built looking at images and then imported.
Throughout the city various villains can be found. I wasn't able to include all of the comic book villains, but I got many of the well known ones, including:
-Joker (Killing Joke)
-Killer Croc (Knightfall) -Solomon Grundy (Knightfall) -Two face (Dark Knight) -Poison ivy ('89 Batman) -Falcone (Dark Victory) -Maroni (Dark Victory) -James Gordon (Year One) -Mayor Sharpe (Year One) -Man-bat (Vengeance of Bane) -Alfred (Earth One) -Dick Grayson (Death In The Family) -Anarky (Arkham City) -Riddler (Long Halloween) -League of Assassins (Animated Series) |
-Scarecrow (Batman Begins)
-Bane (Vengeance of Bane) -Penguin (Arkham City) -Firefly (Arkham Orgins) -The Red Hood (Under A Red Hood) -Hugo Strange (Arkham City) -Black Mask (Under A Red Hood) -Clayface (Arkham City) -Deadshot (Arkham City) -Deathstroke (Arkham Origins) -Catwoman (Year one) -Braniac (Superman) -Hush (Hush) -Lucius Fox (Year One) ...and more! |
Maps also played a critical role in developing Gotham. From Batman comics, games, movies, books, and fan art, each added another aspect to the shape of the map. A theme was common in all maps, however, a large central island with bridges connecting to other areas. Most maps had three islands, however I decided on only using two as seen in the Arkham Origins and Dark Knight versions. Also, the analyst maps provided a general guide for how gangs, subways, sewers, and transit was to be laid out which changed how the server finally turned out.
COMMAND BLOCKS:
After several hours of frustrating programing, I was able to use command blocks, in Vanilla, to create a spawnable mob arena. These arenas, varying in size from 5x5 to 50x50, spawn on the push of a button. The arena is created inside a signifigant building or location and has a glass wall to contain any players or NPCs. The arena is temporary and de-spawns after the player who activated defeats the custom mob(s) spawned inside or dies. After the arena de-spawns the player gets teleported away and given a unique armor or weapon as a reward, opening the arena for other players to enter. In later versions, /scoreboard commands were used to establish a story mode. In the story mode players got armor and points as they advanced to defeat harder and more numerous mob arenas. It is more complex than it sounds and has taken multiple variants to get a successful version (as seen below).
Command blocks also assisted with the development of scoreboards, classes, PVP, teleportation , pets, general admin commands, and cool other commands.
